* EXAMPLE: A suspicion of neglect and ill-treatment of a dog and of poisoning cats
The Society for the protection of animals Ljubljana has received a phone call about alleged ill-treatment of a dog and alleged poisoning of wild cats. The denounced female owner was supposed to keep an older dog of a breed similar to a poodle locked in the house and chained to the radiator. She was also allegedly poisoning wild cats and threatening to poison her neighbour's cats as well. One of our members wanted to check the situation but since the owner was not at home, we left her a message to call us. When she called us, we wanted to arrange a visit to check whether the dog was really ill-treated and to talk to her about the alleged cat poisoning. However, we received a call from her attorney the very next day. They dismissed us impolitely and cancelled our meeting.

* EXAMPLE: Intentional abandoning of a female dog in pup and omission of her provision
A female pup called Lili has been abandoned near a house from which the owner had already moved out. She was living in a kennel full of excrement with no fresh water, food or any other kind of protection and was fed periodically by the neighbours. The veterinarian inspector Miroslav Švrljuga, doctor of veterinary medicine, protected by his superiors, told us that we should take the dog if we feel so strongly for her, since the owner no longer wants her. He also explained us that the case should be carried out in a way that would protect his client, e.g. the person who was suspected of penal act of tormenting animals. The dog disappeared soon after the beginning of the process and we will probably never know what has happened to her.

* EXAMPLE: A threat of intentionally killing cats with kittens made by their owner
The owner of two cats with kittens wanted the Society for the protection of animals Ljubljana to take over their provision since the increasing number of cats in their family became too big of a problem for him and his family. Since these cats were domesticated, we explained the legal sight of responsible proprietorship of animals and offered to help him with advertising and giving away of these animals. His responsibility was to take care for the kittens until the new owners would be found and to sterilize both cats so that a similar situation would not happen again in the future. The owner of the cats, however, disagreed with the offered help. He had no intention of taking over the responsibility for his own cats and he also didn’t want to have anything to do with sterilization. Instead, he threatened us to kill the cats if our society wouldn’t take care of them. He told us that his mother would drown the cats or that he himself would throw them out of his car while driving. Our society sent a written report to VURS (Veterinary Administration of the Republic of Slovenia) but we have not received a response about the conclusion of this case.

* EXAMPLE: A suspicion of threatening the lives of domesticated cats
The Society for the protection of animals Ljubljana has received a phone call about finding a new home for two domesticated cats. We opened a special index file for them and published the photos of the cats in question on the webpage of our society. Later on, the owner of these cats sent us an e-mail informing us that the animals that have not managed to find a new home will be “disposed of” in her own way. The owner then repeated the same threat over the phone. We explained to her that such “elimination” of animals is illegal. It was then when she cut off the conversation and she has not answered any of our calls made to her number ever since. We have sent a report to VURS (Veterinary Administration of the Republic of Slovenia), but since they treated it superficially and without any interest whatsoever, we still don’t know whether the two cats are now alive or not.
